Building better streams from the ground up.

Brody Clark and Ryan Meredith are two stream restoration professionals who have spent several seasons working in the Southeast. Through that experience, they developed a shared vision for expanding this vital conservation work throughout the East.

Flowstate Stream Restoration utilizes a wide variety of large wood loading techniques to create aquatic habitat, increase channel complexity, and help streams return to more natural processes and designs.

Ryan Meredith

Ryan Meredith is a stream restoration implementation specialist and company founder with 7+ seasons of experience in the field. Being born and raised in North Carolina, Ryan has a deep connection to the mountains of southern Appalachia. He has made it his goal to support and revitalize stream ecosystems that have been negatively affected by historic human activity in the region.

Simple principles. Practical restoration.

At Flowstate Stream Restoration, we have years of experience in low-tech process-based restoration techniques. Our practices involve woody additions and wood loading into the system to return the organic debris levels to their natural state, and allow the stream to perform its natural processes over time. To complete this work we use chainsaws and grip hoist rigging systems to operate with the most low-cost methods with the least disturbance to the lands.

01

Natural Processes

We work with the physical processes already shaping a stream, using restoration to support rather than overpower those systems.

02

Large Wood

Carefully placed wood provides structure, slows water, stores sediment, and creates diverse habitat throughout the channel.

03

Long-Term Function

Good restoration should continue working after the crew leaves. We focus on projects designed to evolve naturally over time.

Flowstate Stream Restoration believes in promoting the welfare and general health of our employees. Through our restoration work, we hope to simultaneously provide the extremely necessary ecological restoration work to rebuild our natural landscapes that we love so much, while also changing and evolving the restoration industry at the same time. To accomplish this, we are committed to providing sustainable work and wages for those we employ that are actually livable. We believe that this type of conservation is important throughout the East, and we plan to grow a talented and experienced workforce that can remain in this career as long as possible.
